4/6-4/10: Week Three

Welcome to week three of our virtual learning! I miss seeing all of you and having our classroom discussions. I hope all of you are doing well and finding balance between school and everything else that is going on.

We have a quiz today over Civil Liberties and the 1st Amendment. It is on Canvas (lockdown browser) and the secret word is in the weekly planner. You need to take that quiz today. It is also timed (20 minutes). Please let me know if you have any questions or problems.

This week we are taking a break from Civil Liberties (aside from our quiz today) and instead will focus on the Missouri Constitution. This is one of the requirements for graduation and we need everyone to pass the Missouri Constitution test this Friday.  The weekly planner has the daily details (scaled back this week) and includes the links to the Missouri Constitution packet and questions. Basically, you will need to read through the packet and answer the questions. I think all but one question/answer will be found directly in the packet and the questions are (for the most part) in order. The test on Friday is taken directly from the information in the packet. I am also pretty sure there are Quizlet sets that you can use to study. The test will be 25 questions (multiple-choice) and you MUST pass it to graduate.

We also found out more specifics about the AP Exam on Friday. Here are some of the main points:

  • The AP US Government and Politics exam is now scheduled for May 11th @3:00pm
  • The test will only cover material from units 1-3 (Constitutional Foundations, Interactions among the Branches, and Civil Rights and Liberties)
  • The test will be 45 minutes, consisting of two FRQs (NO multiple-choice this year)
  • You will take the test at home.
  • You will have the option of typing your answer and submitting it or handwriting your answer and taking a picture of it to submit it.
  • The FRQs will be #1 Concept Application and #4 Argumentative Essay
Here is the official information from the College Board website.

I am going to be spending a good part of this week compiling resources, strategies, and review guides for the AP exam, especially the argumentative FRQ since we have not had a chance to practice that.

There are daily APGOV lessons taught by Jenifer Hitchcock on the College Board YouTube channel. Last week, she focused on some topics from Unit 5 (not on the test), but this week she will begin reviewing material from Unit 1. I highly recommend you watch them. Broadcasts are at 2:00pm (I think that is CST), but you can watch anytime after that as well.

Please, please, please don't hesitate to email me with any questions you have over anything!!
